Economic calendar: ADP employment report in the spotlight

  • European indices set for flat opening

  • ADP report expected to show 150k jobs gain in December

  • Speeches from 3 Fed members (Harker, Bostic, Bullard)

Futures markets point to a slightly higher or flat opening for major European indices. DAX futures trade around 20 points above yesterday's cash close. Hawkish FOMC minutes did not led to any major repricing on the markets. However, there is one more key event to watch this week - NFP report release tomorrow at 1:30 pm GMT. Traders will get a final hint today with the release of the ADP employment rate at 1:15 pm GMT. Apart from ADP, investors will also be offered jobless claims reports, DOE report as well as final services PMIs for December from United Kingdom and United States. Speeches from 3 central bankers top the calendar.

9:00 am GMT - Poland, CPI inflation for December. Expected: 17.3% YoY. Previous: 17.5% YoY

9:30 am GMT - UK, services PMI for December (final). First release: 50.0

10:00 am GMT - Euro area, PPI inflation for November. Expected: 27.7% YoY. Previous 30.8% YoY

10:00 am GMT - Italy, CPI inflation for December. Expected: 11.7% YoY. Previous: 11.8% YoY

1:15 pm GMT - US, ADP employment report for December. Expected: 150k. Previous: 127k

1:30 pm GMT - US, trade balance for November. Expected: -$76.5 billion. Previous: -$78.2 billion

1:30 pm GMT - US, jobless claims. Expected: 230k. Previous: 225k

2:45 pm GMT - US, services PMI for December (final). Expected: 44.4. Previous: 46.2

3:30 pm GMT - US, EIA natural gas storage change. Expected: -240 bcf. Previous: -213 bcf

4:00 pm GMT - DOE report on oil inventories.

  • Oil inventories. Expected: 2.2 mb (API: +3.3 mb)

  • Gasoline inventories. Expected: -1.5 mb (API: -0.5 mb)

  • Distillate inventories. Expected: -1.8 mb (API: -0.4 mb)
