9:28 am 21 October 2021

  • European markets seen opening lower

  • CBRT expected to cut rates again

  • Intel and US airlines to report Q3 earnings today

Futures markets point to a slightly lower opening of today's cash session in Europe, following a mixed Asian session. Precious metals and industrial metals are trading slightly higher. Brent pulls back from 3-year highs. Bitcoin dropped below $65,000 after painting a fresh all-time high a touch below the $67,000 mark.

There is no top-tier macro data scheduled for release today but there are some events that may trigger large moves. The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey is set to announce the monetary policy decision at 12:00 pm BST. This will be the first meeting after Turkish President Erdogan fired central bankers who opposed rate cuts. The 1-week repo rate is expected to be cut from 18.00 to 17.50%. Apart from that numerous US airlines will release Q3 earnings reports today so those stocks may become more volatile during the US session.
