Futures markets point to a slightly lower opening of today's European session. The economic calendar for the day ahead is rather light with Conference Board consumer confidence reading for September being the top release of the day. However, investors will also hear from a lot of ECB and Fed members today, including ECB chief Lagarde and Fed Chair Powell.

Jerome Powell will testify before Senate Banking Committee on pandemic response. According to the text of testimony released yesterday, Powell will acknowledge that inflation overshoot expectations but will also stress that it is expected to abate over time.
