Economic calendar: ECB minutes on the agenda

9:55 am 19 May 2022

  • European stock markets set to open lower

  • ECB minutes top the agenda for today

  • Speeches from de Guindos and Kashkari

European stock markets are set for a lower opening of the cash session today. Wall Street indices plunged yesterday setting tone for a poor Asian session and a lower opening of the European session. Tech shares will be on watch during the European trading following an increasing number of warnings sent by tech companies with Cisco being the latest.

Economic calendar for today is light. ECB minutes release is a key release of the day. The latest ECB meeting was a rather dovish one. However, a bulk of ECB members took a hawkish turn in their speeches later on and investors are eager to see whether a stronger policy tightening was discussed at the latest meeting. Apart from that, traders will be offered regular jobless claims reading as well as speeches from de Guindos (ECB) and Kashkari (Fed).
