Economic calendar: New York Fed index, central bankers' speeches

9:29 am 15 May 2023

  • European indices set to open higher

  • New York Fed index for May due at 1:30 pm BST

  • Speeches from ECB, Fed and BoE members

Futures markets point to a higher opening of the European cash session. This comes after an upbeat trading earlier in Asia-Pacific with indices from the region booking small gains. Risk-on moods can be spotted on the FX market with Antipodean currencies (AUD and NZD) in the lead while safe havens (JPY, USD, CHF) lag. Cryptocurrencies are trading higher with Bitcoin gains 2% and climbing above $27,000. Oil is trading slightly lower.

Economic calendar for today is light as it is often the case on Mondays. Investors will be offered industrial production data for March from euro area as well as New York Fed manufacturing index for May. NY Fed index saw a massive jump in April and clearly stood out among other US regional indices so it will be watched closely. Apart from that, traders will hear from a number of central bankers from ECB, Fed and BoE in the afternoon.
