- European indices futures point to lower session opening
- Weak macro calendar, US wholesale sales in a spotlight
- Numerous speeches by Fed and ECB members and Fed chair Powell
Sentiments in the European market are mixed today, following a weaker session in Asia where the Korean KOSPI and Japanese Topix lost the most heavily. Several secondary European and U.S. data releases are scheduled for today, the most important of which are Eurozone retail sales and U.S. inventories and wholesaler sales, which may shed more light on overall consumer strength and organic demand in the U.S. economy. The most important quarterly report from the companies' side will be Disney's (DIS.US), the company will release its Q3 results after the US session.
Markets will be watching closely especially Powell's speech at 2:15 GMT, where the Fed chief may want to slightly modify his message from the press conference, which was received by the markets dovishly. We have also recently seen hawkish statements from several other Fed bankers, including Kashkari, Bowman and Logan yesterday, which could potentially indicate that Powell today will fit into this picture and emphasize that if the US economy continues to be so strong - this will give rise to some kind of threat to a further decline in inflation and could result in a preemptive tightening of policy.
