Economic calendar: Second-tier US data and central bankers' speeches

9:38 am 28 September 2022

  • European indices set for lower opening

  • Second-tier data from the US in the afternoon

  • Speeches from ECB, BoE and Fed members throughout the day

European index futures point to a lower opening of the cash session on the Old Continent, following a dismal trading in Asia-Pacific. DAX futures are currently trading around 80 points below yesterday's cash close. US dollar and Japanese yen are top performing G10 currencies while Antipodeans (AUD and NZD) lag the most. Cryptocurrencies are taking a hit along with other risky assets. Commodities are also trading slightly lower, pressured by strong USD.

Economic calendar for the European morning is empty, at least in terms of macroeconomic releases. However, traders will be offered speeches from ECB and BoE members, including ECB President Lagarde at 8:15 am BST. Some second-tier US data will be released in the afternoon, as well as a weekly DOE report on oil inventories. In the case of the afternoon trading, attention will be focused on central bank speakers as well but from the Federal Reserve, including Fed Chair Powell at 3:15 pm BST. However, Powell will only give welcoming remarks at a community banking conference therefore any significant comments on monetary policy are unlikely.
