The US earnings season is in full swing and the week ahead looks to be the biggest one yet. At least, in terms of a combined market capitalization of companies that will report Q3 earnings. This is mostly due to 5 US mega-caps reporting results in the coming days. The first such report will see daylight this evening, after close of the US session, when Facebook releases earnings. Reports from Microsoft, Alphabet, Apple and Amazon will follow in the next few days. Apart from big US tech companies, investors will be offered reports from 10 Dow Jones members. Report from Caterpillar on Thursday, October 28 will be an interesting one as the company is often seen as a bellwether for the global economy due to being the world's largest construction machinery manufacturer.
So far, companies have named supply bottlenecks, rising input prices and rising cost of labour as the biggest risks to future outlook. Last week's warning from Snap has also called into question the future outlook for ad demand and this will be on watch during Alphabet and Facebook releases this week.
