AMD loses 40% this year, earnings today after session

- AMD results will be released today, after the Wall Street session

- Expectations point to $5.01 billion in revenue ($3.45 billion a year earlier)

- Earnings per share are expected to be $0.91 (EPS a year-earlier was at $0.52)

- Further record results from the company are expected in terms of sales of semiconductors, which are used in computers, servers, cell phones or consoles

- The company has enjoyed double-digit sales growth for the past two years

- The company achieves the level of profitability presented by its main rival Intel (INTC.US)

- Despite very good results and expectations the company's shares lost 40% this year

- The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index is down 25% this year, after 3 years of growth of at least 40% annually. The index capitalization has declined by $750 billion this year

- Analysts' consensus price target is $145 for the company, which offers a potential 70% upside move from current levels
