Economic calendar: Decisions from 3 central banks

9:46 am 6 May 2021

  • European markets seen opening flat

  • Decisions from 3 central banks

  • Elections in Scotland

European stock markets are seen opening more or less flat on Thursday. Today's economic calendar is dominated by interest rate decisions and central bankers's speeches. However, all three central banks that will announce decisions today - Norges Bank, Bank of England and Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey - are expected to leave rates unchanged. Nevertheless, guidance offered by central banks may trigger some volatility on the FX market.

There is also one event scheduled for today that may have long-term implications - parliamentary elections in Scotland. In case Scottish National Party wins majority or manages to form a coalition with the Green party, an effort to hold the second independence referendum may be launched. Nevertheless, such a vote would likely be held in a few years' time therefore any imminent impact on the markets from Scottish elections is likely to be limited.
