Economic calendar: US retail sales, CPI report from Canada

9:44 am 17 October 2023

  • European indices set for flat opening
  • US retail sales report for September
  • CPI inflation data from Canada

European index futures point to a more or less flat opening of the cash session on the Old Continent today. This comes after an upbeat trading on Wall Street yesterday and during the Asia-Pacific session earlier today. AUD is trading higher after RBA minutes showed that further tightening cannot be ruled out. Precious metals trade lower amid USD strengthening.

Economic calendar for the day ahead includes some top-tier releases that are almost certain to move the markets. While German ZEW index for October is the only noteworthy release scheduled for the European trading hours, things get more interesting in the afternoon with release of US retail sales data and Canadian CPI report. Oil traders will tune in for API report on oil inventories, after last week's reading showed a massive inventory build. Goldman Sachs, Lockheed Martin and Johnson & Johnson can be found among today's earnings reporters.
