Investment Plans – Q&A

Why are my deposited funds not fully invested and left as a cash reserve?

In the new version of the system, orders are executed up to 99% of the total deposit value for ETFs and 97% for stocks. The remaining 1% to 3% is intentionally retained as a cash reserve. This buffer protects your orders from being rejected due to sudden market price changes at the moment of execution, while also ensuring smooth technical processing (e.g., for incoming dividends). In the new interface, this reserve is displayed in a separate, clear row to avoid confusion.

Other possible reasons include:

  • Selecting an instrument without fractional shares support in a DIY plan (which raises the minimum investment threshold).

  • Unassigned allocation weights (if the portfolio weights in a DIY plan do not sum up to 100%).

  • Not confirming the auto-invest setup during the bank transfer configuration.

What happens if the sum of instrument weights in my Plan does not equal 100%?

If your custom Plan structure does not sum up to 100%, the unallocated portion of your funds will remain on the Plan's account as uninvested cash. To invest the full amount, simply edit your Plan so that the combined weights of all selected instruments equal exactly 100%.

At what times are Auto-Investments executed?

Funds transferred under the automated investment feature are typically processed and invested in the market between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM local time. (Please note that execution times for individual components may vary depending on when specific European or US exchanges open).

Are dividends from ETFs and stocks in my Plan automatically reinvested?

It depends on the asset type:

  • Accumulating ETFs: Dividends are automatically reinvested inside the fund by the fund manager.

  • Distributing ETFs and Stocks: Dividend payouts are credited as free cash to your Plan's account. They are not automatically reinvested with subsequent deposits. They will only be invested when you manually trigger a rebalancing. Alternatively, you can transfer these funds back to your main account.

Why is the minimum deposit amount for my Plan so high or why did it suddenly increase?

The minimum plan deposit is the sum of the minimum amounts required to purchase each selected instrument according to your defined allocation percentages. If your Plan includes an instrument that does not support fractional units, the overall minimum deposit must be large enough for its allocation share to cover at least one full share/unit.

Example: If an ETF costs $50 and its allocated share in your Plan is set to 5%, the minimum deposit for the entire Plan will be $1,000 (since 5% of $1,000 = $50).

How to lower it: Increase the percentage weight of that specific instrument or replace it with an asset that supports fractional shares.

How can I change the currency of my Investment Plan?

The plan currency is strictly tied to the currency of your main XTB investment account. Once a plan is created, its currency cannot be changed. However, you can set up to 10 different plans per account free of charge.

How does rebalancing work? Do I need to perform it?

Rebalancing in the XTB app is executed exclusively upon request (by tapping the rebalance button in the app) or suggested after editing a Plan’s composition. The system does not perform automatic, periodic rebalancing on your behalf.

I removed an instrument from my Investment Plan, but the positions were not sold. Why?

Removing an instrument from your Plan's composition merely sets its target allocation weight to 0%. It does not trigger an automatic sale of your existing holdings. To sell the removed asset and redistribute the proceeds among your remaining instruments, you need to execute a rebalance after saving your changes.

How do new deposits affect the allocation proportions in my Plan?

Every new deposit is split strictly according to your target percentage weights (e.g., 25% across 4 instruments), regardless of how market price fluctuations may have altered the current value of your existing holdings.

How can I close a single instrument within a Plan and withdraw those funds?

Directly closing a single instrument from a multi-asset Plan is not supported. In DIY plans, you should adjust the percentage weights of the remaining instruments to 100% and run a rebalance.

If you wish to fully withdraw your funds from a Plan, you can close the entire Plan in the app. All positions will be sold, and the proceeds will be transferred to your main trading account once execution is finalized.

Can I transfer positions or funds directly between my Plan and my main account (or another broker)?

No. Direct transfers of open positions or cash between Investment Plans and your main XTB account (or external brokers) are not supported. To access your cash or move your investments, you must close (sell) the positions within the Plan.

Can I transfer my existing stocks or ETFs from my main XTB account into an Investment Plan?

Currently, it is not possible to transfer previously purchased stocks/ETFs from your main account (or from another brokerage) directly into an Investment Plan.

Can I edit the composition of Ready-Made or Sector Plans?

No. To maintain maximum simplicity and adhere to predefined risk strategies, Ready-Made portfolios and Sector Plans cannot be manually edited. If you want full control over allocations and the ability to pick unique instruments, choose the "Do-It-Yourself" (DIY) path.

How are Sector Plans updated?

The composition of Sector Plans is based on the largest companies in a given industry by market capitalization. As market dynamics change, you will receive an in-app notification once a quarter offering an optional plan update to automatically align your portfolio with the current sector leaders.

What happens to dividends if I close an Investment Plan?

If a company or ETF from a closed plan pays a dividend, those funds will be credited to the account linked to that plan. Our operations team ensures that these funds ultimately reach the right place, and we are working toward fully automating this process.

How can I check the details and quantities of my assets?

In version 2.0, we simplified the interface and removed the "Details" tab to make the app clearer and easier to navigate. You can check all information regarding the quantity of purchased ETFs and stocks in the mobile app by going to your profile settings and opening the Capital Assets Overview section.
