Cryptocurrencies: People’s Bank of China opens new research centre

Summary:

  • The People’s Bank of China launches a new research centre
  • Lloyd’s Register, UK-based not-for-profit maritime society, develops a blockchain platform aimed at enabling more efficient shipping registration
  • Bitcoin (BITCOIN on xStation5) experiences a huge drop to around $6975

Wednesday has brought a widespread selloff across the cryptocurrency market. Over the past 24 hours major cryptocurrencies significantly declined sending the capitalization of the whole cryptocurrency market to around the $227 billion mark. In turn, the Bitcoin market capitalization stands a notch below $123 billion. Today we are focusing on informations concerning the PBoC’s research centre and a maritime society’s blockchain platform.

As it is mentioned above, the Digital Currency Research Lab of the People’s Bank of China (the Chinese central bank) has launched a fintech-focused (including blockchain) research centre in Nanjing, as reported by the Securities Times (local source). The new centre is created in cooperation with the local government, and it is aimed to apply created technologies in pilot programs.

The second piece of news comes from the Great Britain where the local not-for-profit maritime classification society, called Lloyd’s Register, has built a new prototype blockchain-based platform for ship registration, as it said yesterday. The Lloyd’s Register is seeking opportunities of using blockchain to ameliorate safety and security in the industry.

At the end let’s analyze the cryptocurrencies’ charts.
