BREAKING: US industrial production & manufacturing data lower than expected

U.S. industrial production was unchanged month-over-month in August, compared with expectations for a 0.3% increase and a 0.2% rise previously.

  • Manufacturing production fell by 0.3% m/m, while the market had expected a 0.3% increase; the previous reading showed a 0.2% gain.
  • Capacity utilization came in at 76.3%, unchanged from the previous reading but slightly below the 76.4% forecast.

The U.S. Dollar Index largely ignored today’s industrial production data and has continued to rise since Wednesday, supported by the Fed’s hawkish message and rate decision.
