DE30 hovers near record high amid thin volumes

Trading in Europe is muted as stock exchanges in Germany and Switzerland are closed for holiday (Whit Monday) therefore traders should keep in mind that liquidity conditions may be thinner in the first part of the day. Despite the holiday, futures session on DE30 will take place as usual. Meanwhile travel stocks came under pressure after Germany's public health institute declared Britain and Northern Ireland a virus variant region, requiring anyone entering the country from the United Kingdom to quarantine for two weeks on arrival. Quarantine rules also apply to people with full vaccination protection and those who have recovered from COVID-19.

DE30 launched another upward impulse last week and continued it throughout today's Asian session. Currently the index is approaching its all-time high at 15540 pts however bearish divergence appeared on the Momentum indicator while volume is decreasing. Daimler (DAI.DE) AG’s truck chief Martin Daum believes that hydrogen-powered big rigs will play a major role in reducing emissions from the transportation sector despite the technological hurdles and skepticism raised by other prominent rivals. He also said the switch to zero-emission fuel cell trucks would cut around half of jobs at European truck engine factories over the next 15 years, and advised policymakers to prepare for that now.

 HeidelbergCement (HEI.DE) announced today that it will sell its assets in California and Arizona to construction materials supplier Martin Marietta Materials Inc (MLM.US) for $2.3 billion in cash. The deal is expected to close in the second half of this year.

Cineworld (CINE.UK) stock jumped more than 3.0% after animated adventure comedy "Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway" attracted more people to theaters than expected after several months of lockdown.

If the current sentiment prevails, an upward move may accelerate towards resistance at £0.9328 which is marked with the upper limit of the 1:1 structure and 200 SMA (red line).
