Today's session in Germany marks the end of an extremely successful 2024 trading year for the DAX. Sentiment itself, however, is currently mixed. The DAX is up 0.05% intraday while Britain's FTSE100 loses 0.2% and France's CAC40 adds 0.1%. In the afternoon, investors will learn Chicago PMI and Dallas FED data. Beyond that, however, both the macro calendar and corporate news are relatively poor.

Germany's DE40 index has halted declines near an important support zone set by the broken historical peak of October this year. Moreover, this zone is oscillating around the 50-day EMA (blue curve on the chart). In the medium term, it is the reaction to these two zones that may determine whether the DE40 will maintain its overall upward trend. In an interview with Handelsblatt, Siemens (SIE.DE) CFO Ralf Thomas said the technology group intends to decide on a majority stake in its medical technology subsidiary by the end of 2025. Siemens Healthineers (SHL.DE) shares are trading about 1.5% below Friday's close.
