Economic calendar: Manufacturing ISM, Powell's speech

  • European indices set for flat opening
  • ISM manufacturing expected to remain in contraction zone in September
  • Speeches from ECB and Fed members, including Fed chair Powell

Futures for major European stock market indices are pointing to either flat or slightly lower opening of today's cash session. This comes after a mixed Asian session that was marked with thin liquidity due to absence of traders from China, South Korea and India. Meanwhile, US index futures trade above Friday's cash closing levels in response to US Congress passing a stopgap funding bill.

Economic calendar for the day ahead is packed with release of manufacturing sector survey data. However, majority of those will be revisions and therefore should not have much of an impact on the market. Nevertheless, US manufacturing ISM at 3:00 pm BST will be watched closely for sure. Apart from that, speeches from central bankers may provide some volatility on the FX market.
