Semiconductor stocks show a muted reaction to Nvidia’s report

Following Nvidia’s report, with the stock up around 7% today after record results and guidance that exceeded analysts’ expectations, the U.S. semiconductor sector is not showing the strong gains that might have been expected after such a solid report from the AI giant. This is an interesting trend and may suggest that the sector is becoming somewhat overbought, with investors showing signs of fatigue after accumulating shares of companies such as AMD, Broadcom and other names linked to AI infrastructure. This does not necessarily mean that semiconductor stocks will remain weak, but after several softer weeks, investors appear much more cautious. AMD shares are down more than 0.5% today, Broadcom is posting relatively modest gains, while semiconductor ETFs are rising by around 1–2%.

AMD chart (D1 interval)

AMD shares are still trading around 18% below their all-time highs, although they remain roughly 20% above the 200-day EMA, shown by the red line. The broader uptrend therefore remains intact, but momentum has not yet returned. The RSI has cooled and fallen below the neutral 50 level.
