US Jobless Claims rise more than expected. Retail Sales Rise 7.5% in June

The number of Americans filling for unemployment benefits was 1.3 million in the week ended July 11th, after 1.31 million in the previous period, bringing total claims to near 51.30 million since March 21st when the coronavirus pandemic started in the US. Today’s reading came in above market expectations of 1.25 million and showed the lowest level since the coronavirus crisis began. 
Continuing claims, which lags initial jobless claims data by one week, reach  17.3 million, while analysts expected a drop to 17.6 million.
 
Meantime retail sales in the United States grew by 7.5 % month-over-month in June 2020, following 17.7% gain in May and beating market expectations of 5.0% increase.
EURUSD saw relatively small reaction to today’s data releases. The most popular currency pair continued to trade around 1.14 support level. Source: xStation5
