US OPEN: Wall Street gains, Tesla slides

  • US indices launched today's cash trading in mixed moods

  • Tesla (TSLA.US) posted mixed quarterly figures

Major Wall Street indices are trading higher following several strong earnings reports from AT&T, American Airlines and IBM. On the downside, Tesla  posted mixed quarterly figures and expects to miss its 2022 deliveries target.  Nevertheless rising yields, political turmoil in the UK  and ongoing recession concerns weigh on market sentiment. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield jumped to 4.18% on Thursday, briefly trading at levels not seen since 2008.  On the data front, initial jobless claims unexpectedly fell to 214k, while the Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index edged up 1 point but remained negative at -8.7 in October. 

US100 once again pulled back towards major support at 11000 pts, which is marked with previous price reactions and lower limit of the 1:1 structure. Should break lower occur, the next target for sellers can be found around 10460 pts, which is marked with 61.8% Fibonacci treatment of the upward wave launched in March 2020. Source: xStation5

Company news:

AT&T (T.US) – AT&T stock rose over 5.0% in the premarket following publication of upbeat Q3 profit and revenue figures. Wireless revenue jumped 5.6%, the best quarterly improvement in more than a decade, and postpaid phone net additions also topped expectations.

AT&T (T.US) – AT&T stock launched today's session with a bullish price gap and is approaching local resistance at $17.15 which coincides with 38.2% Fibonacci retracement of the last downward wave. Nearest support is located at $16.10. Source: xStation5  

American Airlines (AAL.US) shares added more than 2.0% before the opening bell after the company topped analysts’ expectations for the third quarter due to robust travel demand. 

Tesla (TSLA.US) shares plunged over 8.0% in premarket trading after the EV maker posted disappointing quarterly revenue and lowered its full-year delivery target. On the other hand, the company reported a better-than-expected profit for the quarter.

IBM (IBM.US) stock jumped more than 3.0% in off-hours trading after the iconic technology company reported better than expected quarterly results and lifted  its full-year guidance.
