US OPEN: Wall Street starts the new year slightly higher

Tuesday's trading session on Wall Street begins with major stock indexes continuing a positive streak delivered by a lower-than-expected German CPI inflation reading. The macro calendar for today is relatively empty, nevertheless investors will learn about ISM data for manufacturing.

  • Shares of Coty (COTY.US) are gaining nearly 3% at the start of today's session following Piper Sandler's upgrade of its recommendation to "overweight" from its previous "neutral" rating.

  • Truist also raised its recommendation on the stock of PayPal (PYPL.US), which upgraded the company to "buy" from its previous "hold" rating.

  • As we reported in yesterday's post, Tesla's (TSLA.US) Q4 2022 vehicle deliveries report, despite record volume, disappointed investors with a lower-than-expected reading. Following yesterday's news, the company's shares lost more than 4% early in the session.
