US indices launched the final trading session of the year little changed but has turned lower later on. Major Wall Street indices are now trading lower on the day. S&P 500 drops 0.2%, Dow Jones is trading 0.1% lower and Nasdaq declines 0.5%. Small-cap Russell 2000 is a top laggard with 1.2% drop at press time.
However, US indices have a great year behind - S&P 500 gained over 24%, Dow Jones moved around 14% higher and Nasdaq rallied over 50%. All three major Wall Street indices managed to climb to fresh record highs during the final quarter of the year as investors began positioning for Fed monetary policy easing expected in 2024. While a part of the gains was erased and indices moved off the all-time highs, they continue to trade near record levels.
