Morning wrap (05.11.2020)

  • US indices rallied yesterday in spite of lack of clarity on who won the US presidential race. S&P 500 gained 2.20%, Dow Jones added 1.34% and Nasdaq rallied 3.85%

  • Stocks in Asia are trading higher as well. Nikkei gains 1.9%, S&P/ASX 200 adds 1.3% and Kospi trades 2.1% higher. Chinese stocks gain

  • DAX futures point to a slightly higher opening of the European session

  • US presidential race has not been called yet. Latest projections put Biden at 264 electoral votes with Pennsylvania, Nevada, North Carolina and Georgia still counting results. Biden needs to win only one of these states to secure White House

  • Biden is seen leading in Nevada while Trump holds advantage in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. Race in Georgia is very close

  • Results from Georgia and Nevada are almost certain to be announced today

  • Trump plans to go to the Supreme Court with battleground states where he lost

  • UK press reports that Bank of England may decide to bring rates below zero during today's meeting (7:00 am GMT)

  • China banned entry of UK citizens on Covid-19 concerns

  • Apple is reportedly experiencing chip shortages due to strong iPhone demand

  • Oil pulls back while precious metals gain

  • CAD and USD are the worst performing majors currencies while EUR and GBP gain the most. However, ranges are small
