Morning wrap (24.12.2020)

•    US indices finished yesterday's session mixed. The Dow Jones climbed 0.4%, S&P 500 rose 0.1% and Nasdaq fell 0.3%.

•    Positive moods prevail in the Asian markets today. Nikkei rose 0.4%, Kospi added 1.8%  and Hang Seng gained 0.3%. S&P/ASX 200 added 0.33%

•    German and Italian markets are closed, while other European markets are scheduled for an early close

•    Prime Minister Boris Johnson is planning a press briefing on Christmas Eve regarding potential Brexit trade deal

•    Japan will lay out a "green growth strategy" that includes a goal to replace gasoline-powered vehicles with electric cars by 2035

•    President Trump vetoed the sweeping defense bill that authorizes a topline of $740 billion in spending and outlines Pentagon policy

•     Chinese authorities have launched an antimonopoly investigation against Alibaba Group (BABA.US)

•    GBP and USD are leaders among major currencies while CAD and NZD lag the most
