Morning wrap (25.03.2021)

  • US indices finished yesterday's trading lower. S&P 500 dropped 0.55%, Nasdaq declined 2.01% and Russell 2000 moved 2.35% lower. Dow Jones finished flat

  • Stocks in Asia traded mixed today. Nikkei, Kospi and S&P/ASX 200 gained while indices from China traded mostly lower

  • DAX futures point to a slightly lower opening of the European session

  • Bank of Japan Governor Kuroda said that there are no plans to stop ETF purchases or sell current BoJ holdings

  • Suez Canal remains blocked and some media reports say that it may take 5-6 days to clear the waterway

  • Bank of Korea will extend special loans to small and medium enterprises by 6 months

  • United States sanctioned military-owned companies in Myanmar following a military coup in the country

  • Japanese defence minister said that North Korea has fired two missiles today. South Korea officials confirmed the news

  • Bitcoin trades slightly below $53,000

  • Oil is trading lower. Precious metals trade mixed - gold and platinum trade flat while silver and palladium decline. Industrial metals pull back as well

  • AUD and NZD are the best performing major currencies while JPY and CHF lag the most

Global coronavirus cases are starting to pick-up once again, especially in Europe. Over 580 thousand new cases were reported yesterday - the highest reading in almost two months. Source: worldometers, XTB
