Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has completed the acquisition of an 80% stake in Italian aluminium recycling company Eco-Green, marking a strategic step to strengthen its position in aluminium recycling and expand its operations across European markets.

The transaction was completed after receiving all required regulatory approvals and fulfilling the relevant closing conditions, following EGA’s announcement in April of its intention to acquire a majority stake in the Italian company.

Emirates Global Aluminium Acquires 80% of Italy’s Eco-Green

The acquisition of Eco-Green represents another step in Emirates Global Aluminium’s strategy to expand its global aluminium recycling business and capitalize on growing demand for low-carbon aluminium.

Eco-Green has operated in the Italian market for more than three decades, developing specialized expertise in aluminium recycling and extensive knowledge of the European aluminium scrap market.

EGA Acquisition Strengthens Aluminium Recycling

Through the transaction, Emirates Global Aluminium aims to accelerate the growth of its aluminium recycling business and help meet rising global demand for lower-carbon aluminium products.

Following the completion of the Eco-Green acquisition, EGA’s recycled aluminium production capacity has exceeded 400,000 tonnes per year across the UAE, United States, Germany and Italy.

An additional 200,000 tonnes per year of recycling capacity is currently under development, further expanding the company’s global recycling footprint.

Eco-Green Supports EGA’s Expansion in Europe

Eco-Green brings specialized expertise and deep knowledge of the European aluminium scrap market to Emirates Global Aluminium, strengthening the company’s ability to expand its recycling operations across Europe.

EGA is also a major supplier of primary aluminium to Europe, selling approximately 600,000 tonnes of primary aluminium annually to European industries.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, said the acquisition represents another strategic milestone in the company’s global aluminium recycling expansion.

He added that the transaction strengthens EGA’s role in supporting the transition toward a circular economy and a more sustainable industrial future in Europe.

Low-Carbon Aluminium Supports EGA’s Strategy

EGA’s expansion into aluminium recycling is closely linked to growing demand for low-carbon aluminium, which plays an increasingly important role in developing more efficient and sustainable industrial supply chains.

The company is working to build a growing global aluminium recycling network, leveraging its operational capabilities and expertise across multiple international markets.

Eco-Green Strengthens EGA’s European Recycling Network

Luca Scappini, Chief Executive Officer of Eco-Green, said the company has successfully developed into one of Italy’s leading aluminium recycling companies over more than 30 years.

He noted that joining the Emirates Global Aluminium group will create new growth opportunities for Eco-Green as an important part of EGA’s expanding European aluminium recycling network.

The partnership is expected to support the development of products and services for customers while creating additional opportunities for the company’s employees.

Emirates Global Aluminium Expands Aluminium Recycling Capacity

The acquisition of Eco-Green follows a series of investments by Emirates Global Aluminium aimed at expanding its aluminium recycling capacity.

In 2024, EGA acquired German company Leichtmetall, strengthening its presence in the European aluminium recycling sector.

The company also announced an expansion project in December aimed at increasing recycling capacity at one of its facilities by more than six times.

New Investments to Boost Aluminium Recycling in Europe

The expansion project includes increasing aluminium scrap sorting capacity by approximately 110,000 tonnes per year, alongside an additional 153,000 tonnes per year of melting and casting capacity.

EGA subsidiary Spectro Alloys completed its expansion project in July 2025, increasing its total production capacity to 165,000 tonnes per year of recycled aluminium alloys and billets.

The company is currently working on the second phase of the expansion, which will add another 35,000 tonnes of aluminium billet production capacity. Production is expected to begin in 2027.

EGA’s Plans for Growth in Aluminium Recycling

The acquisition of Eco-Green highlights Emirates Global Aluminium’s commitment to expanding its presence in the aluminium recycling market, particularly in Europe, where demand for low-carbon industrial materials continues to grow.

By expanding production capacity, investing in recycling operations and acquiring specialized companies, EGA continues to develop a global network designed to support the growth of recycled aluminium and accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable and circular economy.
