Jobless claims data
- Initial jobless claims: 207k vs 210k expected (204k previously)
- Continuing claims: 1664k vs 1671k expected (1670k previously)
The U.S. labor market remains very strong. Recently we have seen slightly worse data and there were hopes that the labor market was beginning to fade, but in no way did the data approach typical values during a slowdown, but rather returned to typical readings before the pandemic. However, this week's better JOLTS report, Challenger and Claims confirmed a return to strong readings.
