Daily Summary: Optimism returns, chips rise, oil falls.

USA

  • Monday’s session brought a clear improvement in sentiment and higher valuations. This trend is especially visible in the technology sector. NASDAQ 100 futures are up more than 2% today. Other US indices are also higher, though gains are smaller at roughly 0.5% to 1%.
  • A key factor supporting risk sentiment and valuations is the drop in oil prices. Reports about exports from Saudi Arabia are encouraging investors concerned about inflation pressure. In addition, the upcoming meeting between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump has increased market confidence in a potential de-escalation of the conflict through diplomacy.
  • Support for the technology sector is even stronger and backed by fundamentals. The main catalysts are Meta and ARM Holdings.
  • Risk sentiment in tech is also improving thanks to a breakthrough SEC amendment regarding “tokenized assets.” Expectations for this market’s expansion are currently supporting valuations, especially across crypto and “Treasury” companies.
  • A negative development may be a Wall Street Journal report suggesting that Anthropic may have delayed its IPO this year mainly due to massive negative cash flows, although this has not been officially confirmed. At the same time, OpenAI admitted to negative cash flows of USD 278 billion.

  • HP (HPQ.US): The maker of computers, software, and server equipment is forecasting a single digit decline in PC market sales volumes. The stock is down about 3%.

Europe

  • uropean markets also clearly benefited from the improved sentiment. The drop in gas prices below EUR 80 reduces the likelihood and potential scale of further ECB monetary tightening, supporting valuations. Equity gains are concentrated mainly in the semiconductor sector.
