Economic calendar: 3 central bank decisions

  • European markets expected to open higher

  • Decisions from Norges Bank, CBRT and ECB

  • Intel and IBM to report earnings after Wall Street close

European stock markets are seen opening slightly higher after US indices reached record highs yesterday. Investors will find decisions from three central banks in today's calendar - Norges Bank, Central Bank of Republic of Turkey and European Central Bank. Neither of them, not even CBRT, is expected to change the level of interest rates therefore accompanying statements will be noteworthy. However, even in this case it is unlikely that any of three will hint at near-term policy action. Press conference of ECB President Lagarde will be on watch however (1:30 pm GMT). Apart from that, regular US jobless claims data will be released at 1:30 pm GMT.

9:00 am GMT - Poland, labour market report for December.

  • Employment. Expected: -1.2% YoY. Previous: -1.2% YoY

  • Wages. Expected: 4.7% YoY. Previous: 4.9% YoY

11:00 am GMT - CBRT rate decision.

12:45 pm GMT - ECB rate decision

1:30 pm GMT - US housing market data for December.

  • Building permits. Expected: 1604k. Previous: 1635k

  • Housing starts. Expected: 1560k. Previous: 1547k

1:30 pm GMT - US, Philly Fed index for January. Expected: 12. Previous: 11.1

1:30 pm GMT - US, jobless claims. Expected: 910k. Previous: 965k

  • IBM (IBM.US) - after market close

  • Travelers (TRV.US) before market open

  • Union Pacific (UNP.US) - before market open
