Final trading session of the year for many stock market indices
European index futures point to a flat opening of today's cash session on the Old Continent. The week is slowly drawing to a close and so is the year. A point to note is that today will be the final trading session of the year for many major indices as stock market sessions will not be held in many countries on New Year's Eve. In fact, most of the markets in Europe will be closed with French and UK markets being the main exceptions.
Taking a look at today's economic calendar, traders can find some readings from the United States scheduled for the early afternoon. However, neither jobless claims, nor Chicago PMI tends to produce bigger moves in the markets. An event of note will take place in the evening - Biden and Putin are set to hold a video meeting at 8:30 pm GMT. Two leaders are expected to focus on two issues - Iranian nuclear talks and the Ukrainian crisis.
