Economic calendar: BoE rate decision and PMI releases

7:36 AM 23 September 2021
  • European markets seen opening lower
  • BoE interest rate decision
  • PMI releases from Germany, France, UK and US

Futures markets point to a slightly higher opening of today's European cash session as Evergrande fears being soothed, which is helping to keep equities in a relatively good mood. Company managed settle interest payments on a domestic bond on Wednesday, while the Chinese central bank injected cash into the banking system, easing concerns regarding the imminent bankruptcy of a heavily indebted developer. Today's economic calendar is flooded with releases of flash PMIs for September. Readings from France and Germany tend to have the greatest impact on the European equity markets. PMI indices from the United States will be released in the afternoon together with weekly jobless claims numbers. The main event of the European session, however, will be the BoE monetary policy decision. Central Bank is likely to focus on offering reassurance that short-term support will continue while reiterating the need for medium-term inflation control.
