Economic calendar: Central bankers speeches and US earnings

  • European markets seen opening higher

  • Speeches from ECB, BoE and RIksbank chiefs

  • Walmart and Home Depot among earnings reports

European stock markets are expected to launch today's trading higher. DAX futures point to an opening near 15,500 pts - just slightly below all-time highs. US futures trade higher as well. There are few releases scheduled for today but neither of them is a typical market mover. However, investors will also get to hear from numerous central bankers including chiefs of BoE, ECB and Riksbank. Last but not least, Walmart and Home Depot - two Dow Jones members - will report earnings ahead of the Wall Street session open.

10:00 am BST - Euro area, GDP report for Q1 (second release). First release: -0.6% QoQ

1:30 pm BST - US, housing market data for April.

  • Building permits. Expected: 1770k. Previous: 1759k

  • Housing starts. Expected: 1710k. Previous: 1739k

9:40 pm BST - API report on oil inventories. Expected: -1.9 mb

  • 8:15 am BST - Riksbank Governor Ohlsson

  • 9:00 am BST - ECB Villeroy

  • 3:00 pm BST - BoE Bailey, Ramsden and Broadbent

  • 3:00 pm BST - ECB President Lagarde

  • 4:05 pm BST - Fed Kaplan

Wall Street earnings

  • Baidu (BIDU.US) - before market open

  • Home Depot (HD.US) - before market open

  • Macy's (M.US) - before market open

  • Take-Two Interactive (TTWO.US) - after market close

  • Walmart (WMT.US) - before market open
