  • Markets in Europe are opening slightly lower

  • Speeches by Federal Reserve bankers later this day

The most important publication this week will likely be the reading of US CPI inflation, scheduled for tomorrow at 01:30 pm BST. Today's calendar is relatively light, similar to yesterday's. One of the more important data was already published at 4:00 am BST - concerning Foreign Trade in China. In line with experts expectations, China's exports increased by a significant 8.5% YoY, while imports decreased by 7.9% YoY, resulting in a trade surplus of USD 90.21 billion.

Also today at 01:00 am BST, the Governor of the Bank of Japan gave a speech. Ueda stated that if the inflation target is achieved in a sustainable and stable manner, the BoJ will end the Yield Curve Control (YCC) program and reduce its balance sheet.

Markets will likely pay close attention to the debate between US President Joe Biden and congressional leaders regarding the change in the debt ceiling level. This meeting may lay the foundations for the start of negotiations or at least a series of meetings. A similar sequence of events occurred in the past when raising the debt ceiling.
