Economic calendar: Fed speakers and ECB minutes

8:20 AM 10 January 2019

Economic calendar on Thursday looks rather empty with just two noteworthy readings scheduled. ECB will publish minutes from the latest Governing Council meeting in the early afternoon (12:30 pm GMT). It will relate to the December’s meeting, the last one before the net asset purchase programme was terminated. Having said that, investors will analyze document carefully to see how policymakers addressed the latest lacklustre data as well as what are their moods for 2019. Investors should expected increased volatility on the FX pairs tied to EUR as well as on other European assets. Apart from that, weekly jobless claims will be released at 1:30 pm GMT and are expected to come in at 225k. Last but not least, a number of Fed speakers rounds up the calendar.

Central bank speakers scheduled for today:

  • 1:35 pm GMT - Fed’s Barkin

  • 5:00 pm GMT - Fed Chairman Powell

  • 5:30 pm GMT - ECB’s Villeroy

  • 5:40 pm GMT - Fed’s Bullard

  • 6:00 pm GMT - Fed’s Evans

  • 6:20 pm GMT - Fed’s Kashkari

  • 10:30 pm GMT - Fed’s Clarida

EURGBP rebounded off the upward trendline and seems to be eyeing another attack on the resistance ranging above the 0.9080 handle. The pair may become more sensitive in the afternoon when EBC will release minutes from the latest meeting. Source: xStation5
