Economic calendar: Fed speakers and US earnings

  • European stock markets set to open slightly higher

  • Netflix, Johnson & Johnson and Travelers among today's earnings reporters

  • Speeches from BoE Governor Bailey and 5 Fed members

Futures markets point to a slightly higher opening of today's cash session for major European stock market indices. Risk-on moods can also be spotted on the FX market with USD, CHF and JPY being the worst performing major currencies. Commodities gain.

While there aren't too many data releases scheduled for today, investors will have a few things to focus on. A number of Fed members will deliver speeches this afternoon. Note that the pre-meeting blackout period begins this Saturday so it may be one of the final chances for some Fed members to speak. Apart from that, traders will be offered a lot of Q3 earnings reports today, including results from Netflix or Johnson & Johnson

9:00 am BST - Poland, labour market data for September.

  • Wage growth. Expected: 8.6% YoY. Previous: 9.5% YoY

  • Employment. Expected: 0.6% YoY. Previous: 0.9% YoY

1:30 pm BST - US, housing market data for September.

  • Housing starts. Expected: 1620k. Previous: 1615k

  • Building permits. Expected: 1680k. Previous: 1721k

9:40 pm BST - API report on oil inventories. Expected: +1.0 mb. Previous: +5.21 mb

  • 1:05 pm BST - BoE Governor Bailey

  • 1:50 pm BST - Fed Harker

  • 4:00 pm BST - Fed Daly

  • 6:00 pm BST - Fed Bostic
