Economic calendar: Stimulus talks and FED in focus

8:42 AM 16 December 2020
  • FOMC meeting
  • Private sector PMI figures from Europe and the US
  • US sales data
It’s a particularly busy day on the economic calendar, with private sector PMIs and the FED in focus. US central bank is expected to leave rates unchanged while signaling it may stay there for years to come for supporting the economy. Traders will be looking for more information on the pace of bond purchases and any potential policy changes. Also news from Capitol Hill and any updates on Brexit will also influence markets. US Congress moves toward agreement on a spending package which must be passed by Friday, ahead of the measures to avert a government shutdown. Hopes are also rising for another deal, a $748 billion bipartisan proposal for COVID-19 relief.
