Economic calendar: US bank earnings, central bankers speeches

European stock markets are expected to launch today's cash session higher following an upbeat Asian session. News on pausing JNJ coronavirus vaccine shots triggered some risk-off moves yesterday but markets seem to be already looking past these concerns.

When it comes to macro releases, today's calendar is light. Investors will be served a DOE report on oil inventories and some second-tier data from Europe. However, traders will also get to hear from heads of two major central banks - Fed Chair Powell and ECB President Lagarde. US Treasury Secretary Yellen is also scheduled to deliver a speech today.

Last but not least, Q1 2021 earnings season kicks off today with reports from JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo (all will report ahead of the US session open).

8:00 am BST - Spain, CPI inflation for March. Expected: 1.3% YoY. Previous: 0% YoY

10:00 am BST - Euro area, industrial production for February. Expected: -0.9% MoM. Previous: 0.8% MoM

3:30 pm BST - DOE report on oil inventories.

  • Oil inventories. Expected: -2.1 mb

  • Gasoline inventories. Expected: +1mb

  • Distillate inventories. Expected: +0.9 mb

7:15 pm BST - US Treasury Secretary Yellen speaks
