Economic calendar: Virus and earnings in focus

7:28 AM 13 July 2020

As it is usually the case for Mondays, the economic calendar is almost bare. Turkish industrial production data for May will be released at 9:00 am BST and may trigger some moves on TRY. Apart from that, newsflow trading should dominate as the fact that Donald Trump wore a face mask in public may signal a shift in how the pandemic is handled in the United States. Investors should also pay attention to Q2 earnings releases as Wall Street earnings season has just started.

Readings scheduled for today:

9:00 am BST - Turkey, industrial production for May. Expected: -22.5% YoY. Previous: -31.4% YoY

Events of note in the later part for the week:

  • Bank of Japan rate meeting - Wednesday

  • OPEC+ video meeting - Wednesday

  • Bank of Canada rate meeting - Wednesday

  • China Q2 GDP report - Thursday

  • European Central Bank rate meeting  - Thursday

  • EU summit - Friday
