German and UK officials do not point to restrictions before Christmas

German Chancellor Scholz:

  • Germany must not turn a blind eye to a potential 5th wave of coronavirus
  • 5th wave likely to come, will be dominated by Omicron
  • New restrictions will only be implemented after Christmas
  • Clubs in Germany will be closed
  • From 28 December, meeting limits for vaccinated up to 10 people

UK PM Johnson:

  • Currently no reason for more restrictions before Christmas
  • However, he does not rule out additional measures after Christmas
  • UK is monitoring the spread of Omicron, will take action if needed

Meanwhile, WHO indicates that health systems in many parts of the world will be put "up against the wall" by Omicron. Nevertheless, all this does not spoil the mood. Wall Street and DAX futures are making up for losses from earlier in the week.
