Intel shares jump 5% amid talks with SK Hynix

Intel shares are up around 5% in premarket trading to about $102 following reports that the company is in talks with SK Hynix over manufacturing memory chips in the U.S. At this stage, an even more important angle than the Intel-SK Hynix partnership itself may be the possibility of both companies entering joint projects with hyperscalers. Such a model could directly link new manufacturing capacity with demand from the world’s largest data center operators.
  • The Trump administration is pushing for a significant increase in domestic semiconductor production. Earlier this year, Apple agreed to use Intel-manufactured chips in some of its products, fitting into the broader trend of bringing more semiconductor production back to the U.S.
  • One scenario under consideration would involve SK Hynix leasing part of Intel’s planned manufacturing facility in Ohio. Another option could be a joint venture, potentially involving hyperscalers seeking to secure long-term memory chip supply.
  • Any potential deal could face resistance from the South Korean government, as SK Hynix’s memory business is viewed as strategically important for the country.
  • Intel did not comment directly on the reports, but stressed that it remains committed to the Ohio project and continues to invest in preparing the site for production.
  • SK Hynix said it is exploring various options to strengthen its global competitiveness, but no agreement has been reached and no decision has been made regarding memory production in the U.S.

Intel stock chart (INTC.US)

In August 2025, the U.S. government took a 10% stake in Intel, and since then the stock has risen more than fourfold. Today, shares opened with a bullish gap and are among the strongest performers in the Nasdaq 100, although part of the initial gains has already been erased. The stock has stalled near the 50-day EMA around $101 per share.

The main resistance area appears to be around $105-$106, where significant price reactions were seen in August. A breakout above this zone could potentially open the way toward $130. Intel shares are still trading around 25% below their all-time highs.
