Three markets to watch next week (23.07.2021)

5:14 PM 23 July 2021

Next week on the financial markets looks very interesting. Not only investors will be offered fresh inside from the Federal Reserve, but also will get to see flash data on US and German growth in the Q2 2021. On top of that, 6 US mega-cap stocks will release their earnings reports for the April-June period. Be sure to watch GOLD, DE30 and US100 next week!

GOLD

This week’s ECB meeting turned out to be as non-impactful as usual. However, next week investors will get to hear from another central bank! FOMC will announce the rate decision on Wednesday, 7:00 pm BST. Rates will remain unchanged so focus will be on asset purchases as well as central banks view on worsening pandemic situation. Any hawkish hints made by Powell during the press conference at 7:30 pm BST may have a negative impact on gold. However, Fed chair goes to great lengths not to sound too hawkish.

DE30

DE30 launched this week with a strong decline. However, the index managed to recover and is trading not far from record highs. Key report for DE30 will be released on Friday morning - flash estimate of German GDP growth in Q2 (7:00 am BST). A solid reading is expected, thanks to low base effect from a pandemic-hit Q2 2020. Flash Q2 GDP data from the United States will be released on Thursday, 1:30 pm BST.

US100

Nasdaq-100 (US100) can be expected to experience elevated volatility during GDP release as well. However, performance of this index may be determined by earnings this week. 6 US mega-cap stocks will report results next week. Tesla will report on Monday, followed by Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft on Tuesday, and by Facebook and Amazon on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
