With a new £20,000 ISA allowance available each tax year, many investors overlook existing ISAs sitting in low-performing accounts. If your current provider isn’t delivering the value you expect, transferring your ISA could help you make better use of your investments.
The good news? The ISA transfer process is simpler than you might think. Many investors transfer their ISA to access better investment options, lower fees or a wider range of assets.
Why transfer your ISA?
Many ISAs are opened and then left untouched. Over time, rates, fees or investment options may become less competitive.
Transferring your ISA to XTB gives you access to:
- *Commission-free investing (up to applicable monthly limits)
- Thousands of stocks and ETFs
- Investment Plans to help build diversified portfolios
- A single platform to manage your investments
The one rule that matters
Never withdraw the money yourself and deposit it elsewhere. The moment it leaves your ISA wrapper, it loses its tax-free status and if you then pay it into a new ISA, it counts as a fresh contribution and eats into your £20,000 annual allowance, even if you're just moving old money.
Always transfer through your new provider. That's what the ISA transfer process is for.
What you can transfer
You can transfer:
- ISAs from previous tax years
- Your current year’s ISA contributions
- Multiple ISAs from different providers
Both full and partial transfers are allowed under current UK ISA rules, giving you flexibility over how much you move.
XTB currently supports transfers into the Stocks & Shares ISA allowing you to invest in stocks, ETFs and diversified portfolios within a tax-efficient wrapper.
Cash ISA transfers are coming soon.
How to transfer your ISA to XTB
Step 1: Open your XTB Stocks & Shares ISA
If you don't already have an account, you'll need to open one first. You'll need your National Insurance number and to be a UK resident for tax purposes. The application is quick and easy to complete via the XTB mobile app.
Step 2: Request the transfer in the app
Once your ISA is open:
- Go to your ISA account in the app
- Tap Manage
- Select Transfer to XTB
You'll be asked for details about your current provider and the balance or assets you want to move across.

Step 3: Your provider completes the transfer
Transfers can take up to 30 days depending on your provider and ISA type.
You don’t need to take any action during this time and you’ll be notified once the transfer is complete.
Step 4: Start investing
Once your funds arrive, you can:
- Invest in stocks and ETFs
- Build a portfolio with Investment Plans
- Hold cash while you plan your next investment
Things to keep in mind
Your transferred balance doesn't count toward your current year's £20,000 allowance. That limit only applies to new money you pay in this tax year, so transferring an old ISA leaves your full allowance untouched.
Some providers charge an exit fee for transferring out, particularly on fixed-rate accounts. It's worth checking your existing terms before you start. For most easy-access ISAs, there's no charge.
