A set of US housing market reports was released at 1:30 pm BST today. Housing starts for August came in at 1615k, while analysts expected a reading of 1560k. Starts of buildings with five units or more jumped 21.6% to 530,000 whiel the single-family segment dropped 2.8% to 1,076,000. Building permits at 1728k were also much higher than expected 1600k (+6.0% MoM) and reached the highest level since April. The volatile multi-segment jumped 15.8 %to a rate of 674 k and single-family authorizations were up 0.6 k to a rate of 1054k.
