The US economy advanced an annual 6.7% on quarter in the second quarter of 2021, slightly above analysts' expectations of 6.6%. Upward revisions to personal consumption expenditures, exports, and private inventory investment were partly offset by an upward revision to imports.
The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits was 0.362 million in the week ended September 25, compared to 0.351 million reported in the previous week. Today’s reading came in above market expectations of 0.335 million. Continuing claims reading, which lags initial jobless claims data by one week, rose to 2.802 million, while analysts expected a reading of 2.800 million.
