Economic calendar: Avalanche of second tier US data

  • Numerous semi-important readings from the US to be released today

  • API report on oil inventories to be released today

  • RBA Governor Lowe among speakers scheduled for today

1:30 pm GMT - US, trade balance and wholesale inventories for October. Two semi-important US prints will be released in the early afternoon. Preliminary wholesale inventories are expected to come in at 0.2% MoM against September’s -0.4% MoM while trade balance is forecasted to show a deficit of $71.3 billion ($70.55 billion in September). However, one should keep in mind that these data points rarely produce major moves on the markets

3:00 pm GMT - US, new homes sales for October, Richmond index and CB consumer confidence for November. Some moves on the USD market may be spotted at 3:00 pm GMT as US housing market and survey data is scheduled for release. CB consumer confidence is expected to continue climbing and reach 127 pts while Richmond manufacturing Fed is seen slipping to 6 pts from 8 pts. The two previous reading showed new home sales at around 700k and similar reading (708k) is expected in October.

9:30 pm GMT - API report on oil stockpiles. Upward trend on the oil market continues with crude being traded near 2-month high. However, the US crude production continues to rise and it could limit further gains. API and DOE data are key reports to watch ahead of OPEC meeting scheduled for next week.
