Economic calendar: Central bank decisions and Netflix earnings

  • European indices set to open slightly higher

  • Rate decisions from CBRT and Norges Bank, ECB minutes

  • Netflix earnings after Wall Street session

European index futures point to a slightly higher open of today's cash session on the Old Continent. Moods improved during the Asian session following a rate cut from People's Bank of China. 

Investors will be offered rate decisions from Norges Bank and CBRT today. Neither of the two is expected to change the level of interest rates. However, Turkish President Erdogan said this week that rates will continue to fall so CBRT announcement will be watched closely. Apart from that, the ECB will release minutes from its latest meeting in the early afternoon. Netflix tops today's earnings calendar with Q4 results releases scheduled after the Wall Street session close.

10:00 pm GMT - Euro area, CPI inflation for December (final).

  • Headline. First release: 5.0% YoY

  • Core. First release: 2.6% YoY

11:00 am GMT - CBRT rate decision

12:30 pm GMT - ECB minutes

1:30 pm GMT - US, jobless claims. Expected: 219k. Previous: 230k

1:30 pm GMT - US, Philadelphia Fed index for January. Expected: 19.5. Previous: 15.4

3:00 pm GMT - US, existing home sales for December. Expected: 6.45m. Previous: 6.46m

4:00 pm GMT - DOE report on oil inventories.

  • Oil inventories. Expected: -1.4 mb (API: +1.4 mb)

  • Gasoline inventories. Expected: 2.3 mb (API: +3.46 mb)

  • Distillate inventories. Expected: -1.3 mb (API: -1.18 mb)

Wall Street earnings reports

  • American Airlines Group (AAL.US) - before market open

  • CSX Corporation (CSX.US) - after market close

  • Netflix (NFLX.US) - after market close

  • Travelers Companies (TRV.US) - before market open

  • Union Pacific (UNP.US) - before market open
