Economic calendar: Earnings from Tesla and IBM, Canadian CPI inflation

7:35 AM 19 October 2022
  • European indices set for slightly higher opening

  • UK CPI inflation jumps back above 10% in September

  • Tesla and IBM to report earnings after Wall Street close

Futures markets point to a slightly higher opening of the European cash session today. While US and European index futures gained after release of stellar earnings from Netflix, those gains were erased during the Asian session. GBP is one of the worst performing G10 currencies after UK inflation jumped to 10.1% YoY in September, matching a 40-year high from July.

The day ahead will see the release of final CPI data from the Eurozone for September as well as the first release of CPI data from Canada, also for September. The former is unlikely to have an impact on the market but the latter may trigger some CAD volatility. Oil traders will look out for deviations from yesterday's API report in today's DOE oil inventories data. However, a key market events, those that may have the biggest impact on asset prices, will take place after the close of the Wall Street session - releases of Q3 earnings reports from Tesla and IBM.
