Economic calendar: Earnings reports from major US and German companies

  • Conference Board consumer confidence to be released in the early afternoon

  • 2 Dow Jones members (Pfizer and Merck) to report earnings today

  • 2 Dax members (Fresenius and Fresenius Medical Care) to report earnings today

2:00 pm GMT - US, Conference Board consumer confidence for October. The University of Michigan consumer sentiment index jumped quite significantly in October hinting at improvement in moods. Similar jump is expected from Conference Board data as the headline index is forecasted to rise from 125.1 pts to 127.4 pts. 

2:00 pm GMT - US, pending home sales for September. The US housing market data rarely produces major price swings for the US dollar. Nevertheless, it is worth to keep track of it as deterioration there could be a grave sign for the economy as a whole. An increase of 0.5% MoM is expected in September.

8:30 pm GMT - API report on crude oil stockpiles. Oil price move higher on the back of a rumours that OPEC may consider deeper output cuts. The upward move on WTI (OIL.WTI) was halted slightly below the 200-session moving average and inventories data could be a trigger for resumption in a short-term trend.
