Economic calendar: FOMC decision and earnings on top of the agenda

  • FOMC rate decision at 7:00 pm GMT

  • Polish 2019 GDP to be released in the morning

  • Tesla (TSLA.US) among companies reporting earnings today

8:00 am GMT - Spain, retail sales for December. Expected: 2.2% YoY. Previous: 2.9% YoY.

9:00 am GMT - Poland, GDP for 2019. Expected: 4.2% YoY. Previous: 5.1% YoY

1:30 pm GMT - US, wholesale inventories for December. Expected: 0.1% MoM. Previous: -0.1% MoM

3:30 pm GMT - DOE report on oil inventories. API estimates released yesterday showed an unexpected draw of 4.3 million barrels. It can be considered a good omen for oil prices in regards to today's release. Market consensus expects 0.5 mb increase. Gasoline stocks should jump while distillates are expected to decline.

7:00 pm GMT - FOMC interest rate decision. The US central bank is expected to leave rates unchanged today. However, more and more institutions are starting to expect FOMC to lower rates this year. Jerome Powell will hold a press conference at 7:30 pm GMT and he can be sure to receive questions about balance sheet and easing.

9:45 pm GMT - New Zealand, trade balance for December. Expected: 100m NZD. Previous: -753m NZD.
