  • European indices set for lower opening
  • Earnings reports from Palantir and Solar Edge

Futures markets point to a slightly lower opening of today's cash session on the Old Continent following a downbeat Asia-Pacific session, where most indices also traded down. Investors monitored geopolitical developments after the US shot down an unidentified object over Michigan, the fourth time in eight days such an incident occurred starting with the targeting of a Chinese balloon over the Atlantic Ocean. Meanwhile Chinese authorities prepare to shoot down an unidentified object  which was spotted near one of its ports.

Economic calendar for today is light as the key data - Switzerland inflation figures for January - has already been released. It showed the annual inflation rate rose to 3.2% last month from 2.8% in December, above market projections of 2.9% rise. Fed's Bowman will speak before the US session, however any comments on economy and policy seem unlikely

Things get more interesting later into the week with the US CPI and retail sales in focus that could guide the rates outlook, as well as more corporate earnings from major US firms this week such as Coca-Cola, Cisco and Applied Materials. Also, CPI, retail sales, and labour data will be released in the UK. Elsewhere, investors will follow Q4 GDP growth rates for Japan and official announcement on who the next BoJ governor will be.
